CranioSacral Therapy, a relatively new addition in the field of alternative medicine, works on the brain and the spinal cord, where the cerebrospinal fluid nurses and nourishes the bones of the cranium (skull) and bones of the spine, including the sacrum and coccyx (tailbone).

CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle healing bodywork modality, using a very light touch to evaluate and improve the craniosacral system, which is comprised of the central nervous system, the meninges (membranes), the bones that the membranes attach to, and the cerebrospinal fluid.

In a craniosacral session, which usually lasts 30–90 minutes, the client is fully dressed and lies on a massage table while the therapist checks the rate, amplitude, symmetry, and quality of the flow of the cerebrospinal fluid.

Restrictions or imbalances here can be the root of a myriad of sensory, motor, or neurological dysfunctions, such as chronic pain, learning difficulties, mobility impairment, scoliosis, and other serious health challenges. Freeing up these restrictions or imbalances by a trained practitioner allows the body to heal naturally using the body’s self-healing regulation mechanisms.
Safe and effective in treating many conditions, CranioSacral Therapy can be performed on virtually anyone—newborns, children, and adults. It is often applied in conjunction with chiropractic, physical therapy, or traditional medical treatment.
